What not to use on granite
Even though granite is very durable, avoid:
- Vinegar, lemon juice, citrus cleaners
- Bathroom, grout, or tile cleaners
- Abrasive powders or cream cleansers
- Steel wool or hard scouring pads
These can dull the finish or damage the sealer over time
Dealing with spills & stains
- Blot spills straight away (don’t wipe – it spreads the liquid)
- Wash with mild detergent and water
- For oily or stubborn stains, professional stone cleaners or poulticing may be required
Granite floors
- Dust mop regularly (sand and grit are the biggest enemy)
- Mop with warm water and a neutral cleaner
- Avoid over-wetting the floor
- Rinse with water to remove soap residue
Do you need to seal granite?
A simple test: drip water on the surface.
- If it darkens within a few minutes, sealing may help
- If nothing happens, sealing may not be necessary
Sealing doesn’t make granite maintenance-free, but it helps slow staining
