How Do You Clean Marble Floors

To clean marble floors, dust mop first to remove grit, then damp mop using warm water and a pH-neutral stone cleaner (or a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid). Finish by mopping again with clean water to rinse away residue, then dry/buff with a clean microfibre cloth to prevent streaks and water spots. Avoid vinegar, citrus cleaners, bathroom/tile cleaners, and abrasive pads, as they can etch and dull the marble.

Regular marble floor cleaning (simple, safe method)

1) Dust mop first (don’t skip this)

• Use a clean, dry, non-treated dust mop or microfibre mop.
• Sand and grit are what cause the most scratching over time.

2) Damp mop with a neutral cleaner

• Fill a bucket with clean water and add a neutral (pH ~7) stone cleaner/stone soap (or a small amount of mild, phosphate-free dishwashing liquid).
• Mop in small, overlapping passes.
• Avoid over-soaping (too much product can leave a film and streaks).

3) Rinse properly

• Go back over the floor with clean water to remove cleaner residue.
• Change rinse water often.

4) Dry/buff

• Dry with a soft towel/microfibre (especially on polished marble) to prevent water spots and streaks.

What not to use on marble floors

Marble is calcareous stone, so acids will etch/dull it:

• No vinegar, lemon, citrus cleaners
• No bathroom / grout / “tile” cleaners
• No abrasive powders/creams or scouring pads

Spills and spots

• Blot immediately (don’t wipe/spread it), then wash with mild soap + water, rinse, and dry.

Extra protection tips (worth doing)

• Put mats/rugs at entries to trap grit (non-slip backing).
• If your marble is in a wet area, reduce soap scum with a squeegee after use.
