Sandstone Cleaning Brisbane & Gold Coast

At Marble Everlast, we’ve been working with sandstone for over 20 years, especially around pools, patios & Paths, driveways and other outdoor areas. Sandstone is a prestigious surface, people choose it because it looks beautiful and adds value, but it also needs the right care. When you clean sandstone properly, the transformation is like chalk and cheese, you really see the difference.
Our Sandstone Cleaning Process
Every sandstone job is different, but we follow a proven process to get the best results while protecting your stone:
- Preparation: We start by removing garden debris, leaves, and dirt using vacuums or blowers.
- Application of Suitable Chemicals: We use specialist cleaning products designed for sandstone. These loosen up algae, mould, and stains without damaging the stone.
- Machine Scrubbing: A floor scrubber is used to agitate the surface and deep clean pores.
- Pressure Washing: We rinse with controlled pressure. Sandstone can be fragile, so we avoid blasting joints or damaging the surface.
- Neutralising Rinse: A bicarbonate soda solution helps neutralise the chemicals, leaving the stone safe for families, pools, and gardens.
- Sealing: Finally, we apply a premium-grade sandstone sealer. This is the most important step, it closes the pores, repels water, prevents staining, and makes ongoing maintenance much easier.
Common Sandstone Problems We Fix
- Black mould and algae from damp, shady areas.
- Leaf and garden stains left to sit for too long.
- Salt staining and efflorescence from pool surrounds or soil.
- Bird and bat droppings that cause permanent discolouration if untreated.
- Low maintenance and no sealing, the biggest cause of permanent staining.
If sandstone isn’t sealed, stains can become permanent within months. In some cases, we can replace damaged tiles, but prevention through sealing is always best.

Why Sealing Sandstone Matters
Sealing sandstone is essential after cleaning. Without it, problems like mould, algae, and staining will return quickly, sometimes in as little as six months. With a good sealer, water beads on the surface instead of soaking in, protecting your stone for years. Depending on the product, sealers can last anywhere from 2 years.
DIY Sandstone Maintenance Tips
Between professional cleans, we recommend:
- Blow away leaves and garden waste regularly.
- Hose down surfaces once a month. Avoid pressure washers as they weaken sealers.
- Wipe up droppings quickly.
- Use a stone soap product. We supply clients with a bio-friendly cleaner and sealer in one, so each mop not only cleans but also reinforces protection.
What Sets Marble Everlast Apart
- We take the time to listen and tailor the clean to your sandstone type and condition.
- If tiles need replacing, we can attempt to source matching stone.
- The results speak for themselves. Most clients are amazed at the before-and-after difference.
Recent Project
We recently restored a sandstone pool surround on the Gold Coast that hadn’t been touched in 15 years. The stone was heavily weathered and dull. After deep cleaning, repairing sections, and applying an enhancement sealer, the Himalayan sandstone tiles came back to life, the natural patterns and colours stood out beautifully, and the client couldn’t believe the transformation.
